Aside from statues, I love examining humanity with my camera the most. Whether it is confronting the audience with a mysterious face, or recording a moment of intense passion, these are the highly personal subjects from which we obtain insights into ourselves.

On my way through Uttar Pradesh to see the ancient capital of Fatehpur Sikri, the Muslim festival of Muharram began causing roadblocks in several towns. Our driver took a treacherous detour through a tiny village where clusters of children lurked in the dusty alleys between colorful buildings. It isn't often that they see visitors, let alone a Westerner, and excitement ensued.

Crossing the sand dunes of Sam in Rajasthan, India, is a fascinating experience. One moment, you feel alone in an endless expanse of desert, the next, surrounded by caravans. Musicians and dancers like these ballad singers emerge from nowhere to deliver their performance, ask for Indian rupees and then vanish just as quickly as they arrived.
